Le Jardin Caraïbe, founded by Alicia Charles, is a London-based culinary venture rooted in Abbey Wood, South East London. Drawing inspiration from Alicia’s rich French Creole Caribbean heritage, the business brings a distinctive fusion of island flavours and French culinary elegance to the local food scene. Specialising in artisanal baked goods and hearty homemade meals, each dish is a celebration of tradition, passion, and creativity—designed to transport customers to the sun-drenched Caribbean with every bite.

Le Jardin Caraïbe prides itself on using high-quality ingredients sourced with care, supporting local producers where possible, and upholding sustainable practices throughout its operations. Whether it’s fluffy coconut-infused brioche, zesty cassava cakes, or savoury Creole-spiced stews, the menu is thoughtfully crafted to honour cultural roots while appealing to modern tastes.

The business operates with a clear strategic growth plan focused on expanding its presence through local markets, online platforms, and catering partnerships. With a commitment to exceptional service and community engagement, Alicia and her team are building more than just a food business—they’re cultivating a space where culture, comfort, and culinary craftsmanship come together.

As Le Jardin Caraïbe grows, its mission remains the same: to offer soulful, flavour-rich experiences that connect people through food, storytelling, and shared heritage.

The Problem

There is currently a limited availability of high-quality, authentically Caribbean-inspired food options in busy travel hubs such as train stations, airports, and major transit centres. While these locations cater to thousands of people daily, the culinary offerings often lack diversity, cultural authenticity, and unique flavour profiles—particularly those rooted in Caribbean and Creole traditions.

This gap presents a valuable opportunity to introduce distinct, handcrafted meals and baked goods that reflect the richness of Caribbean cuisine. With thoughtfully curated recipes, premium ingredients, and eye-catching presentation, such offerings can stand out not only for their taste but also for their cultural significance.

By delivering these products at competitive prices, travellers can enjoy a memorable, high-quality food experience that feels both indulgent and accessible—meeting the growing demand for global flavours and artisanal quality on the go.

Solution

Le Jardin Caraïbe offers a diverse and vibrant menu that seamlessly blends the bold, comforting flavours of the Caribbean with the finesse and refinement of French culinary traditions. Each dish and baked item is thoughtfully crafted to reflect authentic Creole heritage while appealing to modern tastes and preferences.

This unique fusion not only delivers a memorable culinary experience but also addresses a growing demand for authentic, culturally rich, and affordable dining options—particularly in high-traffic locations like Heathrow Airport. In a space often dominated by generic or predictable food choices, Le Jardin Caraïbe introduces a fresh alternative: warm, flavourful, soul-nourishing meals that are both distinctive and accessible.

From spiced coconut breads to slow-cooked Creole stews and delicate French-Caribbean pastries, the menu invites travellers to indulge in something different—a true taste of the islands, delivered with elegance and care.

Alicia Charles

Founder and Baker at Le Jardin Caraibe

My name is Alicia Charles. I’m a proud Black British woman, born in Trinidad and Tobago and raised in London. My identity is deeply rooted in my Christian faith, and I find joy in sharing the message of Christ and Him crucified.

I come from a large and loving family—my mother, who raised eight children across two marriages, taught me the joy of cooking, the richness of French culture, and the beauty of laughter and love. My father, an intellectual giant, nurtured my passion for writing, the art of baking, and the value of fresh, organic food.

My heritage is a beautiful mix of East Indian, West Indian, English, and African origins, which shapes my character, creativity, spirituality, and unique approach to life. I see the world through a sensory lens—appreciating flavour, texture, beauty, and thoughtfulness in all I do.

I hold an LLB with Honours from the University of London and completed postgraduate study in Project Management. More than anything, I love people, and I am passionate about serving others and uplifting my family and community.

Through my work, I share my deep love for French Creole baking, honouring my heritage and inviting the world to experience the joy and soul of Caribbean-inspired food.
